Matthew Chapter 11
from Chains to Godliness · host Jim & Jody Carmichael
In Matthew 11, John the Baptist sends messengers from prison to ask Jesus whether He is truly the One who was to come. Jesus answers by pointing to the evidence of His works—the blind see, the lame walk, the sick are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.Jesus then speaks to the crowds about John, describing him as more than a prophet and affirming his important role in preparing the way for the Messiah. He also rebukes the cities that witnessed His mighty works yet refused to repent, warning that greater knowledge and opportunity bring greater responsibility. The chapter closes with one of Jesus' most comforting invitations. He calls those who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest, to take His yoke upon them, and to learn from Him because He is gentle and humble in heart.Matthew 11 calls us to recognize Jesus by His works, respond to the truth with repentance, and find true rest by coming to Christ.
