Matthew Chapter 4

Matthew 4 begins with Jesus being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, where He fasts for forty days and is tempted by Satan. Jesus resists each temptation by quoting Scripture, demonstrating His complete obedience to God's Word. After the temptations, angels minister to Him. Jesus then begins His public ministry in Galilee following John's imprisonment, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. He calls His first disciples—Peter, Andrew, James, and John—to follow Him and become "fishers of men." The chapter concludes with Jesus traveling throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, healing every kind of disease and sickness, and drawing large crowds from throughout the region.
