There is a movement in some traditionalist circles that claims one cannot be a faithful Catholic and a patriotic American. There are various reasons for this, including the fact that America is a flawed country and was not necessarily founded on Catholic ideals. However, such a notion is can be contrary to the Church’s teaching on participating in civic life.
