Max Fried is back, Yankees' bats remain AWOL

Max Fried made an earlier than expected return to the Yankees rotation and he delivered five quality innings Wednesday which helped the Yankees get a split of their doubleheader against the Pirates which also secured a series win. Gerrit Cole was very good in the opener, but the Yankees' offense failed him in an extra-inning loss. The Yankees' collective incompetence at the plate has now reached five weeks and there's no end in sight, and it's only because of their pitching that they are still just 2.5 games behind the Rays.
