May 10 - Becoming Who I Am Meant to Be

from The Daily Ripples Podcast · host Pastor Mike & Corey

Nobody can keep all their masks straight forever. In this episode, Mike and Corey dig into what it actually means to see yourself clearly — and why that's where freedom begins. Freedom begins with honesty. When I see myself clearly and accept who I am, I create space to become who I was meant to be. Corey opens with a question that sounds simple until you sit with it: who were you an hour ago, and is that the same person sitting here now? At the gym, at the construction site, with a pastor, with your significant other — different rooms, different characters, different versions of yourself. The Big Book calls it a double life. Living that way means every real problem gets filtered through a dozen different stage characters, and none of them know how to handle it. Telling one person everything collapses the whole act. That's part of what the fifth step is actually doing. Mike brings it to the personal. His therapist told him recently that he needs to learn how to accept who he is today, because he's still being weighed down by who he used to be. Ego, he points out, runs in both directions — it's not just pride that lifts you above others, it's also the self-punishment that keeps you too buried to be useful to anyone. If God has forgiven him, who is he not to forgive himself? And once you get there — who are you not to forgive anyone else? He goes deep into Job 11, a passage from people who were wrong about almost everything but still landed on something true: "set your heart on God and reach out to him...you will be able to face the world unashamed and keep a firm grip on life, guiltless and fearless." Corey closes the teaching loop with the 12&12 page 58 definition of humility — not thinking less of yourself, but seeing yourself rightly — and page 73's warning about people who took inventory but hung on to the worst items in stock. And somewhere in there, an exorcism podcast, a four-hour drive back from Gatlinburg, and a son who asked to get baptized. Find every daily entry at dailyripples.com.
