Mayflowers Capture op 475
from Jeff Gburek Hosted by Jeff Gburek
Shortly after I moved into this apartment near Gorczyn district in Poznan, I heard the ritual shrine to shrine street parade that Catholics in these parts undertake in celebration of Corpus Christi. There is a church next door and very large cemetery nearby so when the processions kept happening after the holiday, I wondered if there had been many funerals or it was a very devoted parish. Instead, I finally figured it out after catching a glimpse of the young people: the girls in white robes, garland crowns of flower around their heads and the boys in maybe white suits some others blue and holding rosasries and prayer books: First Holy Communion. It lasted a few more days and it's been otherwise quiet. I hear church services and organ snippets through the leaves but it's on the side of apartment where I dwell the least frequently. The procession itself reminds of the sheperds and their flocks of goats, sheep and cows in Romania. I suppose that's why I find it compelling.
