Mayor Johnson pitches $17.6 billion budget
from WBEZ News
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is laying out his $17-point-6 billion dollar budget proposal. The plan resurrects Johnson’s failed corporate head tax from last year in an attempt to close the city’s $882 million dollar budget gap. The spending plan also seeks to nearly double the tax on sports betting, from 10-and-a-quarter percent to 20 percent. Johnson’s council opponents quickly criticized the proposal, reiterating a letter sent to Johnson's last month by a majority of aldermen who say they won’t vote for a head tax. HOST: LARA
