Mayor Mamdani Faces Pushback at 9/11 Ceremony | US News

Relatives of 9/11 victims are rallying against Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s planned attendance at the 25th anniversary ceremony, delivering a petition with over 102,000 signatures urging him to stay away. The push stems from concerns over his chief of staff’s past legal work for a Guantanamo detainee and a perceived lack of sustained support compared to previous leaders like Giuliani and Pataki. Despite the outcry, Mamdani stands by his decision, calling it a proud honor to the families, survivors, and first responders — even as the memorial insists the event remain apolitical and silent.
