Saturday the 11th of July Over 50 groups took part in the 2011 Barnsley Mayor’s Parade and for the first time in 13 years, at the request of the town’s Mayor, Cllr Karen Dyson, vehicles and judging returned. Starting from the County Way car park the parade made it’s way along Regent Street, Eldon Street, Mayday Green, Cheapside, New Street, Wellington Street, Peel Square, Market Hill, Church Street, turning back on to Regent Street and finishing at the lower County Way car park. This podcast is a short audio guide to some of the many organisations who took part in the Parade.  It features The Chronicle Brass Band, The Antz Band, Barnsley Sea Cadets, The Junk Band, Two blokes in a pedalo (still not sure what they were doing in the show), Experience Barnsley and the town’s Samba Band. Float Results The (substance misuse) Recovery Coalition team won the Best Float in the Parade Award which was sponsored by Holiday Inn. Best Walking Group Award sponsored by Walkabout, Barnsley was won by  The 33rd Salem Rainbows And there was two winners in the Outstanding Contribution to the Parade. Barnsley YMCA and Barnsley Council Out of Hours Learning sharing the award which was sponsored by Vitesse, Barnsley. . Cllr Dyson said: "Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who took part in the parade and came to watch it take place. There was a real sense of community and I felt proud to be Barnsley's first citizen - we really know how to put on a good show!"
