Mayra portrays the character of May Valentine for Billy Corgan, front man of the Smashing Pumpkins NWA (National Wrestling Alliance). Mayra has had a stellar career thus far. She became a best-selling author at the age of 17 in her Native Country of Brazil. She is the oldest daughter of acclaimed playwright Dias Gomes and actress Bernadeth Lyzio. She was encouraged by her family to express herself artistically, sadly at the age of 11, she'd experience her first major trauma when her father was killed in a car accident. We talk about how this trauma led her down the path of substance use and a string of bad relationships. Mayra found a book on illicit drugs and set off to try them all. Mayra and I discuss the following: How did her father's untimely death lead her to filling that void within, often times through relationships and substances? What was her gateway into substance use and when did she know it was time to seek sobriety? How has Mayra confronted her self-image issues and how has therapy played a role?
