MBE EP 29 David Galbraith, Unleashing Greatness author, on living your best life with courage and care

from Master Builders Elevate: Building a Better Business · host Ryan Castle

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE. David Galbraith shares frank insights and funny personal stories on how to live your greatest life. He draws on a wide range of experiences as a clinical psychologist, high performance mental coach of athletes from Super Rugby (Chiefs) to Olympic sports, youth worker, author, husband and dad. Known as the HOGman, Habit of Greatness, he committed early on to be authentic and create his own framework for understanding ourselves, understanding others, and understanding the space between others. David built and then wrote about this in his book “Unleashing Greatness”.David talks about with authenticity and honesty about courage: what it is and how we can step willingly into the unknown with intention. He also illustrates how being fixated on outcomes differs significantly from the mindset of mastery, and how it plays out in people’s lives. David has seen many contrasting leadership styles through coaching. He identifies the one defining principle that led people to perform well under pressure in the key moments. And when leaders model this primary value, everything flows and performance takes care of itself. David shares life changing stories as a parent and from working alongside Dave Rennie at the Chiefs whose care of his people was absolute. In explicit words, David talks about the courage it takes to care less about what other people think and more about what we think about ourselves – to be “uniquely weird”. As individuals and organisations, we can take steps to build a strong identity that acts as an anchor to ground us in tough times.Links:Jay Carter Talking Performance Facebook Live every Monday at 8pm: https://www.facebook.com/groups/261148161574131/Website: David Galbraith https://www.habitofgreatness.co.nz/about/Book: “Unleashing Greatness” In Sport and Life Through The Pathway of Courage by David Galbraith https://www.habitofgreatness.co.nz/product/book-unleasing-greatness/Everyone just want to be liked and accepted. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
