McConnell Blew It

from The Lean to the Left Podcast

Yesterday, the Senate declined to convict former president Donald Trump on charges of inciting the deadly insurrection that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.They acquitted him, however, with seven of the 50 Republican senators joining all Democrats in voting to convict Trump, but falling 10 short of the 2/3 majority needed for conviction. After the trial was over, Republican leader Mitch McConnell castigated Trump for encouraging the mob attack and suggested he should pay the price in court. He sounded like a Democrat making the case for conviction, but that was right after he had voted to let Trump off the hook, which means he still has political life. What about that? I’ll talk about that in just a minute. But before we get to that, here’s a reminder about something I announced the other day.My old buddy Scott Ramminger and I are cooking up a new podcast that explores the intersection of music, art, and popular culture with news and politics. Scott and I are finalizing contract negotiations with the "Not Fake News Network" and so we are prohibited by an ironclad non-disclosure agreement from providing further details. However, I can say that it is going to be both interesting and entertaining.I can also reveal that we've lined up some very cool and interesting guests, for our show, which is planned to stream weekly as a companion to this podcast, which was launched a few months ago.Our new effort to get into trouble will launch early in March. So, stay tuned...Meanwhile, here’s my commentary.
