McCoy Out, Michigan’s Ceiling Falls | Big East Basketball News

Michigan’s top freshman phenom Brandon McCoy is out for the entire 2026-27 season after tearing his ACL in just 20 seconds of their exhibition game — a devastating blow for a team already reeling from injuries and roster upheaval. Ranked eleventh nationally coming out of high school, McCoy’s absence slashes Michigan’s ceiling, especially as they face a depleted roster with Moustapha Thiam and Jalen Reed still sidelined, and L.J. Cason gone after the coaching change. The defending champs now head into their Villanova showdown with fewer weapons and a tougher road to dominance — a stark reminder of how quickly college hoops can shift when injury strikes.
