He posted the fastest lap of 1 minute in 0.5-4-2 seconds around the 1.8-mile 14-turn street circuit, hitting a top speed of 107.032 miles per hour. That means he'll lead the field to the green flag on Sunday. Marcus Erickson came oh so close in second, just 0.0195 seconds behind in his Andrady Global Honda. Ricky Dennethauger, last year's Indy NXT champ with Dale Coin Racing, shocked everyone by taking third only 0.0317 seconds off pole.
Four-time series champion Alex Palu landed fourth for Chippgen-Ace Racing, while David Maluku's grabbed fifth in his debut with Team Penske. Romaine Grosjean rounded out the top six for Dale Coin, even after a penalty for causing a yellow flag that cost him his best early lap. He still pushed through with a solid final run. Meanwhile, the first qualifying group brought some big surprises.
Andrady's Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power failed to advance, and Team Penske's Joseph Newgarden had a mistake in the final turn, dropping him to 23rd on the grid. In the second group, Ed Carpenter racing struggled with Christian Rasmussen out first, and Alexander Rossi dead last, meaning he'll start 25th. Chippgen-Ace Scott Dixon followed close behind Rasmussen, setting up a tight field for the Street Fighter head. DNN is brought to you by our sponsor.
