Meant to Survive (Daniel 3:1-27)- Nichola Torbett

from Bethel Community Sermons · host Bethel Community San Leandro

Guest preacher Nichola Torbett speaks to us on Pride Weekend about the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and their refusal to bow to the false gods and oppressive narratives of Empire. What does their determination to resist an unjust status quo teach us about queerness? How might their witness stretch our imaginations around what resistance and worship look like in our lives today? Nichola Torbett is a spiritual seeker, gospel preacher, podcaster, writer, resistance fomenter, dog-walker, and nonviolent direct action trainer. Driven by her passion for both spiritual formation and social change, she co-founded Seminary of the Street, a training academy for love warriors, in 2009 and Second Acts, a liturgical direct action affinity group, in 2014. She is co-editor of Resipiscence: a Lenten Devotional for Dismantling White Supremacy and a frequent contributor to The Word Is Resistance, a podcast from SURJ-Faith, as well as to enfleshed, and GEEZ magazine.
