Media Room Live! With Simone Dinnerstein
from Media Room Podcast · host Frank Housh
Today, Simone Dinnerstein joined me to talk about her ensemble Baroklyn’s album Hourglass (below), to be released Friday, June 5, on the French record label Naïve. Hourglass features two Philip Glass compositions, including the suite from the critically acclaimed The Hours (2002) about three women (portrayed by Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep) whose lives are connected by Virginia Woolf’s 1925 novel Mrs Dalloway.Regular Media Room readers may recall last year’s interview with Dinnerstein during which we discussed Baroklyn’s debut recording Complicité, which included four Bach compositions. In the interview above Dinnerstein described how Bach and Glass similarly render musical time. For each, time is an hourglass rather than a clock, flowing rather than mechanical and rigid. Thanks to Simone for joining me. Media Room Live! With Matt BakerJoin Media Room Live!
