This approach proved so effective that by 1657, King Louis XIV was famously cured of typhoid using a chemical compound. Fast forward to 1948, with the establishment of the NHS in the UK, we see the solidification of institutional medicine. An empire was built around diagnosis, investigation, and treatment with chemicals called drugs, along with vaccinations claimed to prevent infections.
