Aired: Monday 4 October 2021Thank you for listening our Medical Monday Podcast this afternoon on eRadio. Here is a little recap:Cataracts are an eye disorder in which the normally crystalline clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy, blocking the passage of light. The cloudiness causes objects to look blurred or not in focus.Cataracts are caused by a change in the structure of the human lens which results in it becoming opaque. This is a normal process that happens as we get older. Ultraviolet is also a causative factor. What are the symptoms?- Blurred, dim or misty vision- Difficulty seeing in low light or at night- Sensitivity to light: lights look too bright or you notice glare around lights- Colours look faded or yellowish- Seeing a ‘halo’ around bright lights- Everything looks more ‘washed out’In order to remove your cataract, your natural lens must be removed and replaced by lenses designed for different conditions and lifestyles, and each is tailored to your visual lifestyle. For more details about the different treatments, please have a listen to this podcast.Catch Medical Monday, weekly at 2PM on eRadioIf you think you suffer from cataracts, schedule an advanced eye assessment with us.Tel: 044 150 0085Email: [email protected]
