Adviento es diciembre y diciembre es Adviento, espera del que ha de venir. Y esperar es considerar alcanzable lo que se desea. Yo moldeo mi esperanza según la cultivo, y mi esperanza me moldea a mí. Dime qué esperas y te diré quién eres. San Juan de la Cruz me invita a purificar la memoria con la esperanza, buscando que “el alma se una con Dios según la memoria en esperanza”, pues espero lo que no poseo, y cuanto menos poseo de otras cosas, más capacidad tengo y más habilidad para esperar lo que espero y consiguientemente más esperanza. Y así, cuantas más cosas poseo, menos capacidad y habilidad tengo para esperar, y consiguientemente menos esperanza. De modo que cuanto más mi alma despojare la memoria de formas y cosas memorables que no son Dios, tanto más pondré mi memoria en Dios y más vacía la tendré para esperar que Dios llene mi memoria.
