Meditation Master: Julian of Norwich
from The Daily Meditation with Brother Richard
In this meditation, I reflect on the teaching of Julian of Norwich, one of the great contemplative voices of the Christian tradition.Julian lived a life devoted to prayer and meditation, and she is remembered above all for a phrase that has echoed through centuries: All shall be well.In this practice we allow those words to accompany the breath. As we settle into stillness and become aware of the rhythm of breathing, the phrase becomes a gentle mantra, reminding us of the deep goodness that lies at the heart of existence. With each breath we allow the words to expand quietly within awareness. The practice invites us to move beyond anxiety and narrow self-concern, opening instead toward peace, compassion and the well-being of all.Meditation in this sense is not a form of withdrawal, but a way of energising our presence in the world. This meditation offers a moment of calm, whether you are pausing during the day or winding down before sleep, helping you rest in trust, peace and compassionate awareness.Chapters 00:00 – Introduction 00:12 – Introducing Julian of Norwich 00:20 – A life devoted to meditation 00:30 – Her famous phrase: “All shall be well” 00:45 – The power of the words across time 01:20 – The goodness at the heart of existence 01:30 – The bell 01:43 – Ritual gesture 02:00 – Uncurling the spine 02:15 – Awareness of the breath 03:20 – Awareness of the present moment 04:08 – Breathing with the words “All shall be well” 05:12 – Commitment to the well-being of all 05:35 – Meditation as an energising practice 07:40 – Breathing in peace, breathing out compassion 08:30 – Allowing the words to expand 09:20 – Carrying the practice into the day 10:05 – Closing bell Hosted on Acast.
