LONG PAUSE Now, allow this  magic to sink into you relaxing you  even more. LONG PAUSE Breathe in deeply, feeling the gentle relaxation spread and your body just letting go. LONG PAUSE Now, imagine the distant rumble of thunder  in the background, a sound that casts  peace and calm through you. PAUSE The thunder repeats like a gentle echo that allows all the thoughts in your  mind to just melt away. PAUSE And in the thunder, you hear a whisper. it’s your name being gently repeated in the rolling rumbles. PAUSE The thunder continues to tremble  in the distance, as a few raindrops lightly tap against your window pane. PAUSE Each drop alights on the pane in a musical lullaby that calms your body and spirit. PAUSE After a few moments, the rain sprinkles  a little harder, forming a relaxing, steady rhythm. PAUSE In your mind’s eye, you can see the rainshower giving life to  the flowers and plants  outside your window. PAUSE You envision petals and leaves catching the raindrops, holding onto the  life-giving water until the droplets slide off and fall to the roots. PAUSE After a while, a flash of white light streaks across the sky, as rain pours  steadily, rhythmically. PAUSE The grumbling thunder  draws a little closer reverberating with  the beautiful flashes of light. PAUSE Outside, you imagine the sheet of water collecting in a colorful rain barrel and cleansing the world. PAUSE You see the rainwater flowing like a gentle river, down a street and cascading out  of gutters  like magnificent waterfalls. PAUSE Another white streak of light fans out across the sky like the branches of a celestial tree. It’s beauty radiates With a relaxing glow. PAUSE A cloudburst of rain drums rhythmically against the roof while the thunder gently grumbles again. PAUSE A ribbon of light dangles in the sky before fading into  the velvety darkness of the rainstorm. PAUSE After a few moments, the rainshower slows to a melodic patter  on the windows and roof. PAUSE The thunder abates to a hushed reverberation softly rumbling in the distance again. PAUSE A few more flashes of light set the horizon aglow before dimming into the  heart of the night. PAUSE There is just rain now, a serene pitter patter against the window pane. PAUSE After a while, the rain slows to an occasional droplet tapping against the window. Finally, it stops altogether. PAUSE The moon creeps out here and there between the last  of the storm clouds sailing away. PAUSE A blanket of tranquility unfolds over the world carrying a hushed peace to all. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
