#Meekness and Rest

from Verso Church Podcast. · host Verso Church

But when Jesus offers to take these and ‘give us rest’ he isn’t just talking about external types, he is also inviting us to lay down those internal burdens we carry. Looking at Chapter 9 of ‘Pursuit of God’ by A.W Tozer, we look at Matthew 11 and unpack what these internal burdens are and how we can give them to Jesus. • • Bible references: - Matthew 11:28-30 - Luke 11:46 - Romans 7:6 ** For Connect Groups using your talk, what 3 questions would you want them to discuss?” ** Read Matthew 11:28-30.  Mark looked at the word ‘burden’ or phrase ‘heavy-laden’ in verse 28 and the Greek word ‘phortizō’ pronounced ‘for-tid-zo’ which means ‘to overburden with ceremony or rites and unwarranted precepts (legalism).  Referencing Luke 11:46 and Romans 7:6, what do you think this means and what type of burdens result from this.
