Meet Kimmy Henderson, the accidental art activist sparking mental health conversations through public art! Inspired by her struggle with mental illness, she created the Bipolar Butterfly Project. 🦋 Her mission is to normalize healthy dialogue around mental health with interactive public art installations. It all started with one butterfly painting during Kimmy’s first, major manic episode. Butterflies represent transformation and self-growth. However, her butterfly was deconstructed, ‘dripping’ off the design. She realized how well this represented ALL mental illnesses - on one side, you try to show your best, most beautiful self; on the other, you may be crumbling. Her art represents both beauty and struggle – a visual reminder that it’s okay to seek help. Now, she has installed over 30 installations of murals and sculptures over northeast Ohio. And she’s not stopping there! Her goal is to get one in every state, sparking positive conversations about mental health all over the country.
