Meet The Bodies Communication Couriers - Neuropeptides

from Reverse, Reset, Restore · host Sally

Send us Fan MailIn this episode of Reverse Reset Restore, I take you on a journey of exploring the intricate role of neuropeptides in our bodies. Drawing a parallel comparison with a bustling city like New York City,  we delve into the function of these messenger molecules which play a pivotal role in communicating and regulating our thoughts and feelings within our brain and body.  We'll take a historical detour, discussing the discoveries of neuropeptides and their roles in pain transmission, mood regulation, appetite control and stress responses, guided by the works of scientists like Dr. Vladimir Popinin, Roger Gulliman and others. Moving forward, I'll talk about how neuropeptides can influence our emotional and cognitive experiences. Drawing the episode to an end, we discusse how therapeutic interventions and lifestyle factors can indirectly affect neuropeptide function, and how the study of neuropeptides can open doors to innovative therapies in health and well-being.As promised- here are the neuropeptides I mention with a brief description and meaning for eachEndorphins: natural neurotransmitters originating from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the brain, serve as intrinsic hormones with the remarkable ability to alleviate pain, reduce stress, elevate mood, and boost overall well-being. Enkephalin: is a naturally occurring peptide renowned for its robust analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.Oxytocin:  plays a crucial role in various human behaviors such as sexual arousal, recognition, trust, romantic attachment, and the bonding between mother and infant. Vasopressin: Vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone, helps our body keep water. It does this by telling our kidneys to reabsorb water instead of getting rid of it. It also has another job – it makes our blood vessels a bit narrower. This helps control our blood pressure. This episodes quotes are from Kelly A. Turner,  author of Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds  who explains the groups of neuropeptides we know by other names as:“Neuropeptides that have a healthy effect on your immune system include serotonin, dopamine, and relaxin; these are released whenever you feel relaxed and happy. Neuropeptides that have a weakening effect on your immune system, especially over an extended period of time, include cortisol, epinephrine, and adrenaline; these are known as the stress hormones. What makes stress—or any emotion, for that matter—so powerful is that almost every cell in our bodies has the ability to both produce and receive these neuropeptides”And our final quote ia an amalgamation of two from Deepak Chopra who refers to neuropeptides as the molecules of emotions:“Every thought, feeling, and emotion creates a molecule known as a neuropeptide. Neuropeptides travel throughout your body and hook onto receptor sites of cells and neurons. Your brain takes in the information, converts it into chemicals, and lets your whole body know if there's trouble in the world or cause for celebration. Your body is directly influenced as these molecules course through the bloodstream, delivering the energetic effect of whatever your brain is thinking and feeling....My own training is in the field of neuroendocrinology and I really became very fascinated many years ago with the molecules of emotion, molecules that we call neuropeptides.”https://www.instagram.com/reverseresetrestore/?fbclid=IwAR0ycrx4XHwDTZIwEx5LpeXF2NQOJ3cK1eJ7P1nUezK3REQR6wdBm3Mr_nYhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100092872185263
