Meet the CEO of Medical Assistance for Retired K-9s (MARK-9)

from Steve Grzanich SoundCloud · host Steve Grzanich

On this installment of The Allstate CEO Spotlight on WGN's The Opening Bell, we meet veterinarian Alexis Newman of Partner and Paws Veterinary Services, who's created a 501c3 Not-for-Profit Charity called MARK-9 (Medical Assistance For Retired K-9s). The mission is to provide financial assistance for the medical care of retired working dogs. When working K-9s retire they often live with their partner and family. These retired police and other law enforcement dogs do not get a pension and very few departments have a program in place to care for the medical needs of these K-9s during retirement. MARK-9 will raise funds which will be distributed for K-9s who meet this requirement, in hopes of making it a comfortable retirement for these animals, who serve and protect just like human officers. Alexis and Steve Grzanich talk about what happens after service dogs end their careers and how MARK-9 and Alexi help (sometimes covering expenses out of her own pocket). BTW, MARK-9's annual Golf Outing Fundraiser is coming up July 22 at Bloomingdale Golf Club. To get involved or donate, call (630) 301-2320 or email [email protected].
