Meeting of Local Authority hears how there is a future for Sligo Greenway
All is not lost for the Sligo greenway plans. Last month, it seemed that it was the end of the line for the project, after Sligo County Council confirmed it was suspending any further works as the preferred route is no longer available and a suggested alternative option was not viable. The preferred route was on the disused railway line from Collooney to Bellaghy, with Irish Rail previously indicating that it could not support this option. Now however it seems that further discussions between relevant stakeholders are due to take place. Cathaoirleach of the Sligo Drumcliff MD Cllr Marie Casserly is in favour of the greenway plans and says there is still light at the end of the tunnel: Sinn Fein Cllr Thomas Healy thinks the focus should be on the reinstatement of the Western Rail Corridor:
