Megan Smithey, Body

from The Odyssey Storytelling Podcast

Megan Smithey set the tone for Odyssey's "Body" show way back in December 2015, opening the event with a story that ran the gamut between funny, sad, and heartwarming. It's a story about her relationship with her body, and with the voice that lives in all of our heads, telling us we're not good enough. From Megan's Odyssey bio: Megan Smithey is a biomedical research scientist, who secretly just wants to be left alone with an old dog and a good book. A transplant to the desert from the Pacific Northwest, she is surprised that her "temporary stop" in Tucson has lasted eight years, and that her tolerance for rain and gloomy weather has been completely ruined by living in this beautiful place. Once again, the universe has proven her "plan" irrelevant and a tiny bit naïve, so now she's trying to lessen the stranglehold on the reins. This is proving a great idea, yet a difficult practice, over and over and over and over… This episode was performed and recorded in front of a live audience at The Screening Room on December 3rd, 2015, and was curated by Carolyn Langford Hussein Fort.
