Melissa Boteach is the Chief Policy Officer for ZERO TO THREE, an organization whose mission is to ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life. Since 1977, they have helped families and professionals better understand the importance of early childhood development. Clara Busse is a maternal and child health researcher and an advocate for toddler and infant childcare. She spends most of her days producing evidence that policymakers can use to improve the lives of families with young children. This includes advocating for parents to have paid parental leave to help families better care for their children. On June 9th, families with babies and toddlers will gather on Capitol Hill for the 10th annual Strolling Thunder™ event. Strolling Thunder™ is the signature event of Think Babies™, a ZERO TO THREE initiative dedicated to the well-being of every baby in America. Parents and caregivers will speak with lawmakers on investments in childcare, infant and maternal health, and family economic security, and other programs that support babies in their first years of life. Melissa and Clara both join the show to further discuss the Strolling Thunder Event, and to discuss why it is important to advocate for health care for toddlers and infants during these current political times.
