MELODY WILSON as Gaea
from Seattle Opera Podcasts Hosted by Seattle Opera
Mezzo soprano Melody Wilson returned to Seattle Opera to sing Daphne’s mother Gaea in DAPHNE in January 2026. When Daphne tells Gaea she has zero interest in the drunken orgy of that evening’s Dionysus Festival, Gaea tries to comfort her: “I know you are frightened. All living things experience that fear. But there comes a day when the gods want our hearts to open up like flowers. As to me, so to you, and in that most wondrous of rituals, everything on earth quickens.” David Afkham conducted the orchestra of Seattle Opera. Photo by Sunny Martini.
