What's going on everybody it is another twice born radio. It's your boy Devon in the field in and Jay That's right, and we are back again. I had a little bit of a hiatus just doing life But we are definitely back and we have not fallen off. Please believe it.

We won't be gone for another 12 years 12 days maybe 12 years no But I think coming back with this subject I think it's gonna be really really dope and we're gonna talk about mental health Due to mental health month That's a month of May the month of May mental health month and I think you know it is clearly It is a subject that everybody talks about but I think it's even more important for our culture right now Because it's not I don't think it's discussed in a way That is helpful as much not to say that ours is gonna be that you know And I think that a lot of times you talk about mental health it becomes much more of a political debate Yes, and especially in church becomes much more of a spiritual debate But I think talking about it itself is a good starting point and in our next episode We'll have a little bit deeper into some details, but I think right now I just you know I think it's good to introduce it So I don't know what your thoughts are on a J about mental health and Christianity and I know there's a lot of thoughts about Jesus is the answer you don't need a therapist Oh, that's the yeah, so you know, I mean obviously we serve a Couple communities right and mental health can be a taboo topic in a few of those communities, right? Yeah, especially in the church right there there the church usually and I'll say traditionally I won't say usually But traditionally I think they're starting to come out of it. Yeah, but the church has traditionally just said hey pray Yeah, just pray about it. Just pray about it.

It'll be okay, and you know that can only take you so far and what I mean by that is is that Oftentimes when you just tell someone to pray and they don't see change And they're praying about the same thing over and over and over again. It's really hard for you to apply the scripture that says keep knocking Yeah, it's really hard like in real life to apply the scripture To keep knocking you know what I mean because it's like if you think about it in the in the the realm of your life If I come to your front door and I'm unsure if you're home and I knock on the door and I ring the doorbell I hear no movement. I see no movement. Nothing is happening.

How long do I stand at that doorstep before I just walk away in defeat? Wow, he's not here, right? Right? That's real and so what I mean by telling people to just pray and it's gonna be okay is oftentimes it's like dropping It's like in a sense what you're telling that person is hey just drop it off at the altar That's great.

That's a great in theory But if you just tell someone to someone to drop it off at the altar what most likely will happen is I will take it to the altar But I will pick it back up and take it with me Exactly exactly and I think one of the things that people forget is that when God answers prayers, right? Let's say the person is praying what we forget is God often answers prayer through community, right? So when there is a need for help with mental health do you not realize that God will have first of all? He doesn't react to prayers prayers are not forgotten for us.

He has already provided answers for things We haven't even prayed about that's number one. But number two is that God knew that our especially our culture our time would need mental Would need mental health and so that's why he you see much more about therapists now Any other time but it is an Old Testament to when Saul had a spirit David came and played the spirit off now we can make that super special I want to but that is a form of therapy and I think what ends up happening is people make things so super spiritual that it's like I pray guys She's gonna match we take it away That is not what you see majority of the time in scripture you see that with Jesus miracles But those are not as much as what you see God do through the 66 books what you see God do is Establish an answer through a process and a person we want a king who bring you David, right? I need we need a warrior he'll bring a war he'll bring Gideon out He'll always there's always an answer in the form of a person And so why is it when it comes to mental health? We don't want accept the fact that God can use therapists as Answers to the prayers.

Yes, that's that of just it being in silo. Yeah, shut up to that show silo By the way, but it's like that's like it's your issue. You know, I mean exactly. Yeah, that's your issue You should you should go to God in prayer and it's as if though intercessory prayer has no power With the power in it is the agreement but bro we are coming together, but I'm on your side exactly with you That's the community aspect of it.

Yes, and this is my thing when you think power Power is this all it is is the ability to affect change and we talk about power I just I think what I the problem that probably gives me upset about mental health with the church is we keep trying to divide How God does something by something huge and spectacular versus something consistent and silent and it's the same power manifested in different ways Yes, you can go to a revival and God can heal the person right there or sometimes God can have a blessing on a doctor That you go to consistently for therapy and not only is this person helping you get physically ready But you're connecting with somebody who has a spiritual prayer life and is praying over you and is talking things through with you And before you know you come out of those sessions way better than if God would have just gave you a miracle in a church house and And it is actually bad mental health to me There is you are in need of therapy if you think that all you have to do is pray throw it away and walk away Hmm. Oh, yeah, absolutely. There is it because you have no responsibility You have no responsibility and here's the thing like when it says we need to have faith praying you have to pray by faith I believe God is going to do it But there's still a part that you play in that because faith with that works is dead my words I just blame the faith that I just prayed about so actually, you know, it just I probably need a little bit of trouble for that But I just no no no listen how necessary it is to hear stuff like that from a pastor bro It's very important because people do not get the real of You play a part in this it's not just I'm asking and I'm expecting no it is I'm asking and I'm working towards For real and at work that work has to actually happen. You can't just say I'm working towards it Well, it means nothing it means y'all hear me when I say this if part of the reason why people are walking away from the church Is because we've created that narrative well, I pray I prayed and nothing happened.

That's not how it works people Listen, even when even when you pray and God does something just watch out God How Jesus doesn't in the scriptures even when he healed somebody he gave a set of instructions after the healing Yes, every time every time even if God does it you still have something to do Isn't it crazy to you or well, it's crazy to me when I think about when Jesus healed people when he Healed in mass they didn't get to the detail, but when he healed certain individuals and when they talked about an individual that he healed It always came with a conversation Wow now. It was never just boom. You're healed. Yep.

Yep You know, I mean you never got hit with the coat and everybody fell over and everybody got a heel It was never like that There was always Thank you that was very first I was thinking of was yeah that's casting the first one in the whole nine or even I don't even know lepers bro the lepers the ten lepers made up of Jesus and he's like as you go to the he goes walk there Right, and they were healed as they walked so like if you imagine if he was like hey Jesus healers and he was like Go present yourself to the priest and they were like what don't you want to just do it here? Like do I really have to like walk? Wherever we have to go that's the generation we have bro Let me tell you one of my favorite healing stories in the Bible is the man in front of the gate And it's not even a Jesus healing But if the man in front of the gate in the book acts right and he's begging for arms. Yes, and He gets healed now This man is has been crippled we find out later on in the scripture.

He was 39 years old He's crippled they had to drop him off at his fence because he can't walk Jesus When they lift when they when he's healed My man dances immediately Yes, get it in sir. You have you ever say okay? We have kids. We've seen our children learn how to walk Yep, it's falling all over the place.

I mean just My man has been dreaming about walking for so long He gets healed and he dances immediately It didn't say he jumped and fell and and tried to get his legs together like a newborn fawn No, my man was dancing in worship immediately because he had a plan he knew what he wanted to do He said as soon as I get a chance to walk watch what I do bro bro I you know And that's another great example. That's another thing by faith, right? You don't dance about the expectation. That's a whole another conversation I think one of the things that I think was is even crazier in the realm of mental health is Can you have a couple scriptures you were talking about earlier?

Yes, one of the things that I think is lost on us when it comes to mental health is when we read these stories and these accounts in the scriptures We read them like their story like they're like their fairy tales So for instance part of the allure with Disney Please forgive me part of the allure with with Disney is I could transport to this imaginary world Princesses and frogs and it always works out and so when I read Cinderella when I read snow white and clear It's not Disney originally story, but you get what I'm saying when I read these stories I get inspired and I want to go live in that world That's what people are doing when they go to church They read the Bible like it's a fable and then they get to go to church like it's Disneyland So they can live in this fable world, but the truth is it's fantasy any adult who goes to Disneyland and many of us love it We are very clear. It's not real. We enjoy it in a way that it is real But we inside we don't really believe it's real and it's the same thing escape from reality It's an escape from reality as you stand in line for the next ride You begin to remember the bills that are waiting right outside the game exactly But I'm immersed in this world and I pay money to be immersed in this world And I don't care if you raise the price that is what Christians have done to church We do not truly believe the scriptures were reading It's like reading Cinderella snow white we get to go to a place that creates the world that I read in the scriptures But I don't truly believe that God is doing those things and so even when it comes to mental health That is where I get that's where I'm like man We do a really poor job because we don't take the people out of this fake faith And allow them to exist in a world where you're gonna have to really believe what you raise is not fable This is not a store when Jesus heals ten lepers he healed ten lepers when there was a man by the gate named beautiful Peter And then they healed the man by the like these are things that actually happened recorded historical documents That's what the six books are yes And so when you read that and you have like when you think about that for your mental health You can't read it like oh, I wish that was me you have to read like I serve the same God Yes, and you you bring up a huge point because you cannot read the Bible like you're like you're reading the Hobbit You can't know that's what I'm just reading this this adventure You know you can't read the Bible like you're reading an adventure. No that is someone else's adventure Yeah, you're not reading a story about someone else you're reading a story about you Don't and if you can't find yourself in that story, that's where the problem lies because we're talking about the same God in those scriptures It's the same way it's the same guy every promise that he made in that story It is the same promise to you bro And if he did it for those people in the scriptures and that's my thing and here's the thing and this is where goes back to what you were saying Where if you have a teacher of the Bible who does not really teach the Bible?

Then you'll read over some of these passages and you'll extract the wrong thing or you'll need out the nuance of what the writer was saying Right, and you also don't know how to get back to it because all you heard was the story That's why you're so you didn't hear where the story is based out of none of the story is based in the scripture Yeah, because you don't understand the scripture and you're not reading it for yourself to understand the scripture All you're going off is the story that the pastor gave you and that will never work that's why I'm not a big fan of Overacting the scripture. Oh you talk about like like big old huge sermon examples that Examine to where I remember the example, but I don't remember the scripture or was I or I did not pull the principle out I just I just saw them connected dot like a musician you know I'm saying how you got to that, you know area of of explanation from this scripture right this scripture seems Pretty pretty up front We are we are painting a Picasso whoa, whoa off of a I mean whoa I mean you ain't lying you are not lying and I think that's like so and well You've been talking about the scriptures that you were saying for the mint oil because I think that's good So I generally okay now I have a person who actually have dealt with depression And when you deal with depression, um, I don't want to say that it goes away But you learn how to manage it. There you go. You learn how to manage it, right?

Yeah, that's it and so I've dealt with depression clinically. I have been to Counseling and have tried to develop some methods on how to manage it. Um, the truth of the matter is is that scripture helps me more than anything. Yeah, yeah, but It is the application of scripture That helps me more than anything the faith in the scripture the belief in God's word that God is who he says he is and will do what he said He will do that's what preach helps me preach So, um, I have two scriptures that I that I generally use, um to kind of help me when I start filling the font come on, right?

Inco the first one is greater. See that doesn't mean than he does in the world. I mean that but Um, that is a scripture for me that is a reminder That regardless of all the whispers All the negative whispers from man From the world from social media from all these different directions regardless of all of those Jesus is greater and if I have Jesus if I am by relation of blood to Jesus Greater is he I'm already aligned with the greatest That's one Uh, the second scripture that I use is um, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me now Uh, I will preface that by saying it is not about Things right right how how how the scripture says I can do all things right? It's not about accomplishments But the accomplishment of being able to do the simple thing because when you're depressed You got things telling you, man.

Don't get out of bed today. Come on man. Don't get up. Yeah, what's productivity?

You know what I mean? Like you don't you don't need any of that and so I can do all things I can get up I can I can wake up get out of the bed. I can shower. I can I can continue on a daily I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Christ who strengthens me?

He gives me the power to do these things. I will not be defeated by these whispers. Go Don't so okay. All right This let's let's let's go back to that So, uh, jay's referring to scriptures one is the first john form four You guys can go read that and then I could do all things new christ Philippians 4 13 Now it's important but would jay preface that with So that people don't get lost when he says it's not about things It is so important because if you're thinking about it in that context You will be let down again and again If you think I can do all things through christ means that I can Uh, walk into any job interview and get it and that's the time you quote the scripture You have not read that chapter that's number one.

Yeah, I'm gonna break the the record in the 100 meter dash I ain't worked out at all in the last three years. Yeah, and it be honest with you that So so two things number one first paul starts the whole thing off in chapter four Philippians by talking about where do you keep your thoughts Being anxious for nothing praying. He's he's working the first 10 11 12 verses on just your mind alone And they start talking about right before he gets to 13. I've learned to live a base Which we've learned to live with nothing I've learned to live with a lot and he's like it doesn't really matter because in the middle of all of that whether I have a bunch I have nothing christ is my anchor.

He's my sustainer. He's my middle, right? So so when he says I can do all things through christ I just like I want you to think about how much that has to do with mental health paul is saying like I have learned How to be anxious for nothing because calling every paul never gave up a command that he did not live I'm not asking you to just be anxious for nothing just because he's saying I have learned in my life That I've had a whole bunch of stuff. I've had a little bit of stuff and I've learned that if I take it to him in prayer He he balances me now.

I'm not gonna do the other scripture about peace that surpasses understanding But this mental aspect is what are you focusing on? Where are you taking that anxiety number two and then number three you will learn that whether you have a lot of you have a little Crisis with you and all of it and so you can't allow lack of accomplishment like you just said Okay, so let's say you let's say you didn't get the job Let's say you didn't win the race. Let's say you didn't get approved for the house. Okay, it's okay to be disappointed That is a part of how it goes.

That's life But my mental health and all of that is going to be determined on what was I focusing on when I went for that house What was I focusing on when I was trying to get such and such when I got rejected where was my hope Was my hope in him? That's the greater is he part with my hope in him or was my hope in what I was going to get if your hope is in What you were going to get that you only know how to live in the quote unquote a bound You have no idea how to live in your base And if Christ is your middle then you'll know even if I don't get it Christ got me Even if I do get it Christ is still my sustainer And so that's part there for many people is again Understanding these scriptures are why it's so important and why those are two perfect scriptures to hold on to is understanding where your mind is man And like I can tell you right now jay mentioned that he suffered from depression I suffered from suicide Was suicidal for a season like I learned that in the midst of all of that it wasn't even that Christ took away the depression It was even Christ took away the anger whatever it was that Christ kept me in a place to where that would not run me It was literally the greater in me. It was like that's not yes, don't stop. Don't get me I'm not gonna let those thoughts get me dog like exactly shim-sam I'm not gonna let that man So that's and I pray somebody holds on to that man because that is some those are great scriptures I didn't even think about those but those are perfect scriptures for those who are dealing with Yeah, listen and there are so many people that To their knowledge mental health is not even a problem.

It's not even a thing in the Bible So far from into those I say are you kidding me? Did you really look into the scriptures? Nah, couldn't have couldn't have bro. Okay.

One of my favorite books of the bible is Ephesians. I mean, I'm a Phesians. I'm sorry. Um, uh, Ecclesiastes.

Oh, yes. Oh my gosh, dude. So much. It's a nerd But if you read Ecclesiastes, he's the wisdom It sounds like he is so depressed About getting old Oh, this is hevel.

Hevel. Dude, I like this little bit of vapor. Life is what a vapor. It's all hevel Is what a man is the same time for this.

There's a time for that. It's the same man. The wisest man ever richest man ever had had the women had the money had the power had faith Had it all And there's nothing that says he doesn't still have it during the writing of Ecclesiastes He's just saying hey, it's not really about all of that It's not and when it turns this is why I'm grateful for the bible And this is why you have to read all the books and not just the ones that pop up on your bible at daily verse Because I promise with Ecclesiastes probably not gonna pop up, right? No, but like what a dichotomy of a man To be the son of king David Well, even jesus references Right son of david and and you get to build the temple that your that your father was trying to build the one who slayed the life Money, I mean just without without question women power all of that and to be able to have your life documented in that way To be known as a person full of wisdom and then have a whole poetry session Like let's talk about lamentations like have a whole poetry session about I mean it is what it is like There's nothing you want to decide it's like wait, what nothing new Yeah, you know what I'm saying like and that helps us to shape that like for people who I feel like and we're not gonna talk about this episode But we're talking about social media and all that stuff but part of that part of the part of the mental health is being able to Compare yourself to other people and I don't have they have and I wish I had because they have and you start trying to juxtapose those things And you start going man I don't think I'm happy with my life because I don't have yet at yada I wish we had a modern day Solomon who'd be like it's not even worth pursuing Exactly Exactly because at the end of it all It's gonna be you and christ yo, listen you're gonna stand before him and that's it bro This is probably to a place.

This is why Solomon would have pissed off prosperity preachers Oh, you would have you will probably never hear a prosperity preacher preach out of Ecclesiastes No, I'm almost positive you will never find it and part of the reason why is because what he's saying is so contradictory to what they preach Dude, it's like honestly if it really was all about all that stuff. He wouldn't preach that way There's also a follow-up to all of that simply the conversation with a young rich ruler. Oh my gosh Oh my gosh, you know, I mean like in the new testing and there's a there's a there's a simple follow-up Okay, you've done all these things great now give this up It runs away in agony bro and how many times he's attached to that stuff and can it was easier for him to follow the law I just hope people understand that it was easier for him to follow the law than it was for him to get rid of his stuff Do you know crazy that sounds crazy that is crazy? Just read the 600 plus laws just go through it and be like oh, he's like oh, that's easy work You want me to sell anything like just tell him to sell his stuff and just walk away half He didn't even say oh he said half bro and the the the finish point was come walk with me That's reward.

Give it a step come follow me because the honest I got truth is if you are gonna follow me What does that stuff gonna matter anyway? You were gonna have to make it so and so I think that that's where the agony comes from is because he knows that All my life. I've built myself worth on this stuff And don't ask me to give that up to build my life on you And truly that is a that is I was about to say America's problem. That is humanity's issue I'll give it a say count what did you give what would you give to just walk with Jesus Doc, I've said this before and I'll say it again A phrase I was told to me some years ago when I was in youth church There was a version of Christianity where people would go to heaven and if there was no Christ they would still be happy Yes Because they're not in love with Christ and in love with the thought of eternal Life in heaven No, it's like heaven without Christ Let me tell you something if there's heaven with no Jesus you might as well consider it hell The story I don't even want to say the story This life And all that we know about it is built around him.

Yep That's it you cannot take Jesus out of the picture. You just can't he is the very basis Who's got the father of if there's no Jesus? There's there's there's Jesus. There is no cross there is no barrier there's a resurrection and according to Paul there is no resurrection Exactly and here's what I love about this is what I feel like separates our kind of takes away the excuse You saw Jesus deal with mental health issues Yes, you saw him in the garden trying to reconcile what it meant to go to the cross and still want to please your dad and yes, and he's battling with a difference the the separation of Being divine and being human 100 both times like you understand that yeah like every authority to flex and being like I'm not even allowed to do that like I gotta choose to be human with these Rawlings, I mean, you know saying like the thought of this right at the end he says nevertheless Right, nevertheless means I just gave you all the reason in the world why I want this And he said nevertheless not my will your will but your will and again This and this is why I love that part because it helps me to go.

Okay, so god. I don't like where I am I don't like what I'm feeling I'm fully accepting and realizing and feeling that this is a bad season I don't like the divorce. I don't like that this person passed away I don't like any of this stuff But I know and I trust in the fact that you have something bigger now that looks crazy to the outside But for those who have him on the inside You understand how that's even possible to trust the god that you don't understand what he's doing Yes, and and a lot of that and okay, and let me also go back to this because I Some came up when you were saying something and reminded me this is not to negate the fact that there are those who deal with literal chemical imbalance I mean, I don't want to use it. It's a very bad.

Oh absolutely like there are people who are dealing with things that are literally physiological Yes Okay, so so that's not to say that you still pray we still believe in all of that stuff but the main thing is It is it is important to understand that there are some things that it's not about a chemical imbalance as much as it is about where your mind has been dwelling And then there were some who was just you gotta walk we have a god our church man I love this dude man. He's been walking with us ever since we were in Houston and sometimes he makes people uncomfortable because he's still He's chemically imbalanced. You know what I'm saying, but he loves the lord. He's just trying to figure out.

He's very socially awkward great dude amazing dude And what I'm telling people is is like You have to understand man like I got people in my family who were chemically imbalanced love the lord The whole nine man like you gotta know the difference number one but number two you have to understand that like God is with all of us Yes, you understand? Yes, it's beyond it's like I had a couple of members who passed away with the chemical imbalance like it never the ultimate healing came at the grave But like to think that God is not good because they had to deal with that. It's crazy in my head But oh, yeah, but I understand it. I get it but it's because you have to understand that God's promise to us that he'll never leave us Correct.

That's the problem with you And as you get older and jay will tell you this as you get older you find out just how valuable it is that people who won't walk away Oh my goodness that by itself makes you go. Oh, like it probably doesn't even sound great Like I'm glad you won't leave me, but could you please help me? Nossan I think there's people who are like hey, I'm not gonna help you with that, but I'm not gonna leave you either Yeah Yeah, I know I ain't gonna put this on on on on front street But jay was having a conversation with his son that I thought was pretty powerful I missed it. I apparently I came out of the tail end of it, but he was basically he was telling his son no And hey man, I'm here And no like hey brother.

No shame to your game. I'm here. I love you man. No Hey, listen, that's valuable.

That's valuable man. That's necessary. That's necessary That's necessary, but you got to understand that as a father As a father And I believe that that that god deals with us in the same manner. Yeah as a father.

I don't have to agree with you I don't have to condone it Whoo for you to understand that I still love you bro that I'm still here bro. Oh, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, because let me be honest with you see now I'm about to get in trouble for real Some of us aren't really having mental issues. We have just never been taught how to be disappointed by a good decision You're you are still sitting in god. Why didn't you give me what I wanted when that's really just nobody taught you how to how to receive a no Man and you are losing your mind and I'm saying that you know loosely But you are acting like everything is falling apart and you're in depression and all this stuff And there's nothing to do to being hurt.

You just know whenever taught you how to be grown And also know whenever taught you who god really is now we're talking god is the guy who's just gonna say yes Then you have a complete misunderstanding of who god is which is why see this is why I love doing this video people have a genie theory Bro, that's because he sold like that. Thank you. That's great to say we have talked in that We have talked we have misinterpreted scripture and said stuff like if you pray for it Anything you ask for my name is going to happen What happens if I'm praying for my Lakers to make it pass the first round Tell me how that works. There's a crazy thing.

Here's the crazy thing If he said it it will happen period, right? We hinge upon that in church often But we don't actually know what he said that's the key All right, that's the key. So we think we think we heard him say I am a victor not a victim and I have the victory we win this that the other When you look at the war, yeah perspective of we win You must understand that that doesn't mean every battle is one there is the war is one. Hey, hey my boy You will lose some battles preach Hey, dog.

Hey, and it's an old testament and let me take some Bro, there was a battle in the old testament where they were like hey, we got to go to battle and they were so sure they were Gonna win because god kept him winning and this one particular battle that was like nah son I'm removing. I'm out of your dog moving to cover and them jokers not only lost the battle. They lost the ark They lost the presence because they were so they treated victory like it was like it was Instead of it being a privilege of being a part of god army It was an idol to them and so and to be honest with you It sent them down. It sent them down a path where they were and thank god for good kings But man, they were tripping and I'm so glad you said that because we have taught that We have been we haven't taught that that victory means every battle will never lose Right.

No, no, no If we're being honest the reason why we needed a savior to come to make sure he covered all of our sins is because We cannot bro What's the point? Your community has a great deal to do with your mental health Your community has a great deal because part of the issue that I think is that when you look at those people who are dealing with issues in the bible Generally they were found in isolation Generally generally Generally, yes, generally they're fine. I'm not talking about like lepers and disease and people like that I'm talking about people who were down tribe and stuff like that they were literally and let's say king's all for instance Understand this kings were surrounded by servants and things like that But there was there was not one person in the kingdom who was his peer Correct, especially back then surrounded by yes, man There's a right about yes, man because they didn't want to die he had the power to kill him And and even the queen was not considered a peer if you had a queen correct So so so to understand that you are in a very powerful position full of people that will never understand what you're going through That's what I mean by isolation. You'll generally find them Elijah defeated their profits of bail 400 of them jokers and then within I don't even know how many days it was Find themselves under a tree hoping to die suicidal Just saw god do a tremendous miracle He was just making fun of the profits that he ended up watching die and then he's sitting there going god away with me Why because there was no There was no in his mind there was god had to show him a I got a bunch of profits But in his mind i'm alone so i'm saying that to say For many of you and i've been it's so funny i've been having this conversation jay tell me if i'm tripping i gotta be tripping Tell me i'm tripping I have met more people from this generation right ask me what you doing tonight i'm going home going to sleep Somebody told me that i said it's friday night i said it's friday night on a three day weekend I said you're you're done with school you just finished your last class i said wait I'm gonna home and cry and go to sleep and i was like I said you here's what i asked him i said you ain't got no friends you go out with i ain't really got i've heard that phrase i ain't got no friends More times in the last five really since the pandemic then i've heard my entire life and i'm trying to figure out when we were in our 30s Could you imagine Having a a group of friday nights i'm talking this is not just happening once i'm talking if you talk to people Reoccurring they have zero plant they don't have community they don't kick it at each other's houses They don't go eat with one another they just they be at home bro I'm trying to think when that if that were to if i were to ask you where you were and we're not there But we first met years ago over a decade ago and every time i called you you'd be like I'm gonna when i was calling you we were like let's go to seven eleven and midnight so that we can go to a podcast inside of somebody's church Like we're gonna do something let's go to apple bees let's get it together Dark that did so much for my mental health even if we didn't have no money We knew we're about to go ahead apple bees on this happy hour and spend our last 20 on some wings and some stuff I don't know what happened but like it feels like this generation has purposely isolated themselves from community to me Well That is uh, definitely something we're gonna jump into on the next episode for sure But I believe social media has a lot to do with that Whoo, I didn't think about that I believe social media has a lot to do with that I didn't think about it because there is not well, I'll save it I'll save it Yeah, but we'll just say social media has a lot to do with that I do want to make one edit to the comment that you made about your community Yes And the only edit i want to make to that is what you show your community Thank you.

Yes your vulnerability and transverse because your vulnerability, you know oftentimes you have a great community But they don't even know what's happening with you because you won't share They have no clue what's going on in your life And I would venture to say that you really don't have a community if you are not open with anyone Oh my gosh. Oh jane So just because you have people in presence you still feel alone because no one knows you Bro, and let me tell you something as because we're dealing with something like that's kind of similar right now When when you have a community that thinks that you trust in that way Only to find out later that you never did it is the most heartbreaking I can't explain to you how bad that feels to go. I wasn't I wasn't a friend enough to you that you could trust me That's exactly exactly no man. Exactly.

I used to be the person who would say in that This was some of my my mental health stuff when they ask you questions about stuff I used to be the person who would say I could be in a room full of people and feel like I'm the only one there Jesus man Yo, and then it took me it took me maturity and growth to realize that's because I'm in a room full of people who I don't trust Jesus Enough to know what's going on with me So that's why I feel like I'm the only one there because no one knows what I'm going through but but me Yo, yo, that's so real that is Anything that I could say to the people as it relates to mental health is You can't conquer it alone. You can't You can't conquer it alone. You can't do it in silo and I mean alone by yourself physically And most definitely you cannot do it alone by yourself spiritually It will never happen You need Jesus And I guarantee you Jesus will send you to people He's gonna send you to community. He's never gonna be like, okay, you just you know, you stay with me Unless he's about to reveal something like he did for john on the island of patmos.

He is not about to keep you alone Bro, even when he gave abraham his promise, I was like, yeah leave your mom and daddy's house He was telling him I'm taking you from that community so you can go build a bigger community Bro, I love that genesis chapter 12 verse one give it to me that he tells him Go uh-huh The response from abraham at the time not even abraham was literally it says so he went that was it That was it. That's the text that's the story And he just did it you say go i'm out here. I say where Let's let's let's do it. Let's rise go.

Let's ride Man, it was it clearly was a different level. No, no, no, he didn't he didn't he took his camp Please all you and your camp and go all y'all all y'all roll. I'm so glad you said that I forgot about that that part to me Which which again and here here's another and I don't know how far into it we can go, but This is the part where it says Your core community is going to start with you and god first It is a stay there That's where it starts because christ becomes your filter for the community that you carry Right So now I know based upon My relationship with him with the term my relationship with other people and it's not to isolate. Let me make very clear It's not to say oh, you don't know enough jesus you get around me It is I know how to properly place you in my life you do One of the hardest things I found is pastoring is that everybody thinks are supposed to be your friend And that you're you are obligated to have the same relationship with everybody that's not scriptural number one It's very bad theology and then number three is not humanly possible Right, you can't if i'm on the same level of every if you're not saying the same level That if what I need can be met by everyone around me.

I have too many needs Right, there are people that got his custom fit to fit what you need And those people I can say far from between in comparison to the amount of people that you'll meet But there's only certain people in my firm and they know exactly who they are who are going to get access to my life in the way that I have it Only jay, and I'm not going to be others because then people start getting upset There's like two other people three or four people who have access to my life in a way that when I'm failing they know it Does that make sense and that's that say I'm trying to hide it is that that is the community that got its custom built that is safe for me And and when I know i'm getting ready to crash out. I know where I can run Safely. Yes, this is not and hearing this is not like oh this popped up randomly These have been people who have been in my life for years that have proven to have a track record. Does that make sense?

Yes, and let me tell you this there's always evolution to it as well. Yes. Yes. There's always evolution to it.

I think about how Um, I think about this and you're waiting You had 10 groomsmen. I did I had a whole heap of them. I was number 10 Very true I was number 10 very true Now based on the statement that you just made That means that you know, there's there's been a lot of edits And that's not to say that's not to shade anyone else That's just simply to say that as you grow you will see who god has you to grow with absolutely And it is so fun. There's people who are not in our wedding Yes, absolutely Well, I'm again.

I'm not gonna get in names because that just gets me in trouble But y'all know who you are but like like if we were like if we were to go back and just look at that groomsmen list Dude, I have I have the picture We took a gq magazine killing them killing them What was it like men of purpose or something? Had to have been something it was something extra gospel, but like yeah, you are so absolutely right like the amount of evolution that has happened in me And let me be honest. It's not that any of those people were bad or wrong or anything like that stuff It was just that wasn't that wasn't what I needed when I was turning 30 I wasn't even 30 yet in that picture. I was 29.

You're in turn 30 the next month So like you know, it was it's just evolved and like now I'm sitting here by the turn 43 the circle is much different And to be honest with you like it's not even that I don't talk to all of those people I still talk to all of them, but you know, it's not all of them. They're just their placement is different Their placement is different bro. I'm telling you right now. I'm telling you right now.

See y'all y'all y'all We are gonna do video at some point But one of the things we're gonna do that's gonna make is different than any other podcast Is that we're gonna have one camera that is sitting in the back in Jason's kitchen And it's just gonna it's what we're gonna call the interruption cam and it's just gonna be people who randomly walk in and out of the podcast Who are looking at him recording and then go about doing the tasks? It is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life. I call them the blowers through the signage There's literally signage and they blow right through the signage like I don't hear what you say I didn't see jay's mama. I didn't see jay's wife.

This is great. I know. Oh, this is gonna be great Y'all can I show you her my son because he walked out the front door. No, we didn't hear that was good That's what's funny.

No, is that now yet that you might they don't they don't hear it, but boy See this one in the back right now with a bonnet look at you She was back there dancing in and out the screen. This is this is wild to me. I love her though I love her That's good. Yeah, amen Amen She also she also does her best to be as quiet as possible now Other folks they'll be back there playing you know instruments with Jesse also know I don't know if jay's even told have you told the people that you have another podcast That I have another podcast lucky buddy in trouble with your wife here this oh, you know what no I have not told that because um we are we are working on some consistency issues, but um Yeah, well you're hurting here first.

You heard it here first jay has another podcast and and to be honest with you This is what we're gonna debut. We gonna have her on as one of the podcasts. Yes That'd be the way we gonna have her and rayon and it'd be this chick that dude is actually the name see No, no, we heard janks now. We heard that now.

You know that another you got another participant in his old joint You got a demerit. You got a demerit Yo, yo, yeah, but no this chick that dude will be coming pretty soon That is uh my wife and myself and and we have a marriage podcast that we've been talking about for years We've done a couple episodes, but we never liked the content that came out of it um videoing and all that kind of stuff Um, so we've been thinking about different ways to do it Um, and I am really excited about the new way that we thought about I'm not gonna give all the stuff But um, essentially they're they're I'll say they're intimate conversations. They're not intimate moments So you're not gonna be in our bed or nothing like that, but uh, they're intimate conversations So they would be in your bed Beyond the beyond the lookout for that. Um, my wife is one of those people who is always like her mind is always she's a creative To the team to the team she creates she creates christmas ornaments.

She creates all kind of stuff She she has a store. It's called this she creates, but she has like um A mind for um like marriage questions for me all the time is she always asked me like random stuff So if it's wednesday would you uh Would you eat a bng or a ham sandwich in my mind? This is good. Yeah, you're right here and so we go Between your church and your wife you are toast brother.

They go each with a uh with that. Oh, yeah Getting back like real talk guys from a from a mental health standpoint. Um Yes, it's may it's a month of may mental health awareness month or what have you but I don't care if you're listening to this in november december. It doesn't matter your mental health is extremely So true important.

So it's extremely important And and if you if you could I'll say this. Okay. So, um, I don't know if you got a chance to check out the the lacret and uh, Francis chant Francis Chan interview or or podcast Um is a lacret podcast episode with Francis Chan as a guest on it. Um, Francis Chan has been out of the spotlight for years And part of the reason he's been out of the spotlight is just because he felt like he needed to back up from a lot of stuff Yeah, get it.

Um, but he mentioned on that podcast something that I thought was Not groundbreaking but very important He said I struggled with the thought of whether god really loves me Jesus And he said his struggle was was that he couldn't necessarily put it into words of like there was an issue that he was having with Tying god's love for him To his love for god He couldn't see that god loved him unconditionally because he had conditional love for god That's heavy Good lord. That's heavy And so imagine standing up in front of a congregation and preaching and sharing the love of god that you have a twisted view slash version of that love Literally Yes, and he wrote the book crazy love crazy love And he has a new book coming out called beloved with his daughter. Oh, it's about john Oh Oh You have kicked my interest Yeah, not really to plug the book per se but you know the conversation that they had was really deep around the love that you have for god and in relation to The love that god has for you And being able to look past your conditional human mind And see and understand that god is of no time god is of no conditions That god really loves you and that you have to believe that god really loves you Jesus Because the more you agree and see that god really loves you the more you have to now deal with the fact that well What am I really stressed about? Wow How can I really have this stress if god really Loves me Now that's not to say that you can't have mental health issues That's to say that you have mental health issues because you're seeing god in the wrong light there it is There it is They would even went to this extent and this what I thought was the killer Be transformed by the renewing of your mind If you are transformed by the renewing of your mind that means your mind belongs to him If your mind belongs to him, then how can you limit how you think he loves you?

Wow It's not even it's it's almost a sin To believe that he doesn't love you the way he loves you because you are telling him what he does for you Wow Well, that's heavy Super heavy. I would listen. That's why I sent it to you was like, it's so good That was having issues just listening to that whole thing because I'm like Granted, I'm not saying that mental health issues are a sin No, no, no, I'm saying is that we have to get to the point to where our mind and our thoughts and our life is fully governed Like by god, and that's it's easier said than clearly, but that's the goal in the yes Yes, that's the goal in the name. We're supposed to hand that all off to him Oh, but instead what we often do is we make sure that we're in the driver's seat And we just tell him hey, you can tell me where to go and I'll turn and I'll do this and I'll do that Yeah, we will not get in the backseat of our own life.

No, no, no not Jesus take the wheel Jesus ride with me as I hold on to the wheel We are often in the driver's seat. We want control control freaks go ahead and log out now And go work so you know, I think that that when we talk about Mental health that you know, obviously it's not it's not something you can solve in an hour and a half conversation No, this is a daily work. This is a daily process All we pray for is progress. Yeah Movement if that means that you need to Break down the community you have to restart in restructure with god.

Mm-hmm. Do so Do so because if you are like I was in the room full of people and still feeling alone because you didn't trust them to know you Probably run it with the wrong circles and to be honest, you haven't even experienced real good life yet I'm telling you yes, absolutely. Oh my gosh. The freedom there is yes when people know you yeah, man Yeah, man.

And here's what I love double to accountable. They ain't gonna sugarcoat nothing not real community Correct. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, this is a good episode, bro I I have thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I wasn't sure what road he was gonna take but I'm glad I'm glad we did this woman So in the next episode, we're gonna be talking about we'll give a little preview about what we're talking about in the next episode We're gonna be talking about social media Social media Is it is it a need is it a need and I think I want to touch on another portion of that as well is that for our youth? When to introduce it to our children, right? Yeah, the question of is it is it a need? Obviously, we know it's not a need but is it Is it worth it man?

Oh man, what do you get from it? It's like there's a lot of questions, you know that I mean I gotta come around too Um, but I will say this I think it's a shaper. Oh It's a shaper and it is shaping our culture and I'm gonna stop right now about to say please don't come up to this about it Yeah Y'all gonna love this episode, man.
