Mental Health And Murder In Rural America- A Growing Problem

The subject of mental illness and murder is one that has been in the news a lot lately. It's a very touchy subject but one that needs to be talked about. It's vital that families recognize the signs of mental illness in their loved ones and get them the help they need. Those who suffer from mental illness are more likely to commit suicide than murder so the best thing a family can do is get them help. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the help they need and this can lead to murder. Betty Frizzell is a former police chief and SWAT member is also an author.   In her book, If You Can't Quit Cryin' You Can't Come Here No More: A Family's Legacy of Poverty, Crime and Mental Illness in Rural America, Frizzell recounts her memories and talks about the growing problem of mental illness in America, and the lack of accessible help that is available.  On May 12, 2013, A woman with learning disabilities, brain damage and a 22-caliber pistol loaded with drugs shot her cruel drug-addicted husband while he was sleeping in a trailer they shared with their adult son.
