Messenger-Inquirer Features Editor, Don Wilkins

Don Wilkins is the features Editor for the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer. Don and his family are longtime members of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro. At Walnut Memorial, Don is a Sunday school teacher, serves as co-chair of the church’s van ministry and part of the video-tech team there.But above all, he is a born-again believer who recognizes Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.Don says he fell into his career in journalism. After High School he enrolled in Owensboro Community College and pursued a course that was simply called, “basic reporting”. A professor asked him to join the College newspaper staff and that ignited the journalism fire that was burning within him. He wanted to be a sportswriter, but little did he know, God had other plans for him in journalism.He then enrolled at WKU and majored in print journalism, which was at that time, one of the best schools for journalism in the Country. After graduating WKU he was immediately hired at the Ohio County Times News and his journalism career took wings.Since then, Don has worked in nearly every area of the newspaper industry, including, reporter, journalist, editor, city newsroom editor, and the list goes on. He has won multiple first place Kentucky Press Association awards, which include investigative reporting and column writing. In 2020, he was awarded the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s state communications award for his agricultural coverage. In 2021, the Kentucky Baptist Convention presented him the Integrity Award in Journalism for accurate, fair, and balanced coverage of faith issues.Listen Live to Shaped by Faith with Theresa Rowe on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8 AM  CST on 99.1 FM WOMI Owensboro 1490 AM.
