It is often argued that Jesus could not be the promised Messiah because the previous Scriptures speak of Messiah as a victorious warrior, not as a victim who would endure extreme suffering, humiliation, and defeat. This is often made as a general point against the idea of Jesus being the expected Messiah and it is also often used specifically to deny that Jesus is the one foretold by the prophet Isaiah in the 53rd chapter of his prophecy.
