Join us as John Hartman and Steven Brunelle discuss the stories and creative process behind Sun Dance, Brunelle's first solo exhibition at the gallery. We met Brunelle through John Hartman as they are neighbours in their hometown of Lafontaine, Ontario. Hartman has been mentoring Brunelle over the last few years and curated his exhibition at the Midland Cultural Centre in 2022 which received much acclaim. While referencing the Woodland School of painting that includes the artist Norval Morrisseau, Brunelle has gradually developed his own unique style. He incorporates both contemporary stories about everyday life, as well as those that have been passed down from his mother from the Kitigan Zibi First Nation.
