Mexico travel plans upended by cartel violence

This morning, the US State Department expanded a "Shelter In Place" travel advisory for Mexico. The advisory follows the Mexican military killing drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as "El Mencho." About two-thirds of Mexico was affected by violence following the killing. By this afternoon. Mexican authorities appear to have restored order in many cities. But travel plans are still upended, including to popular tourist destinations such as Cabo and Cancun. Travelers to Tijuana are encouraged not to go. With Spring Break just up ahead, USC students are among those having plans disrupted. Some planned vacations and others have family in Mexico they were hoping to visit.
