Meyer Steps Down Amid Worker Tragedy | Las Vegas News

After 13 years leading Las Vegas Public Works, Deputy Director Matthew Meyer is stepping down amid swirling controversy following a fatal workplace shooting. Though no wrongdoing has been confirmed, anonymous workers allege Meyer ignored escalating tensions between the victim and accused shooter — tensions that had been reported multiple times, even bypassing chain-of-command protocols. Emails show Meyer acknowledged the complexity of emergencies but defended standard procedures for transfers. As investigations by OSHA and Metro Police continue, city leaders say they followed protocol — but critics question whether more could have prevented tragedy.
