Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Let's talk a little fashion today. How about Miami Swin Week 2022? Let's get started.

In the next couple of days, Miami Swin Week will come to an end. And honestly, when I think of bathing suits, in my mind, it's like, you know what? There's so much you can do with a bathing suit. It's not that much material to start with.

And how many different ways can you design a bathing suit? And undoubtedly, that was the question that these designers started with. They're like, what can we do to push the envelope and make things different, do something that no one has ever seen? And they did that.

And that's amazing to me. So now, for Miami Swin Week, over 70 different swimwear designers took to Florida. And they brought their latest collections. And it was a wide range of styles of bathing suits.

There were some that were what you would expect to see at a swimwear, a so to speak. But others were like, dare I say, a spectacle? Like, wow. Now, I will say this.

Initially, I did not plan on talking about this today. I was actually going to dive in on Rosita and the Sesame Place deal. However, the more I thought about it, and I'm like, I just had this conversation with one of my besties. She is having issues with the way that she sees herself.

I'd say a mild case of body dysmorphia. She looks at herself, and she sees herself in the mirror. She sees a fat person. When in all actuality, there's nothing fat about this girl.

But a little pooch here, this there, that there, she used to work at a gym. And so she was super duper fit because she was doing these workouts along with the people that she was training. And now that she doesn't work there, she doesn't get in the workouts that she used to. And she's feeling some type of way about her body.

And you know what I told her? I said, you know what? You need to take a trip to a theme park, a cruise, or the dog on beach. Because you're going to go to one of those three places, and you're going to get inspiration.

You're going to see something. You're going to see somebody in something that you probably would have been like, if I had that body, I wouldn't do that. But in seeing that sort of thing, in seeing the confidence that some of these women that they just radiate, it's contagious. And so you see a woman that you probably wouldn't have read.

If you worked at the bathing suit store, you wouldn't have recommended that suit for her. Because she got too much booty in the pants. Something's happening there. But she, on the other hand, didn't see it being a problem.

You know what? I can rock this. And I love that when I see women that are very confident in the fact that they feel like they can put anything on. You know, there are those haters.

It'll be like, you know, just because they make it in your size, doesn't mean you have to wear it. But if it makes you feel good, and you're having fun, you're not hurting anybody, then you know what? Do you boo? Put that two piece on and get to stepping.

Let's talk about these suits, y'all. All right, so I know you can't see them. I'm going to do my best to kind of tell you what about the suit was different or special, and let your imagination run wild. Because that's exactly what these designers did.

They let their imagination just go completely bonkers. Now, let me not say all of them. Some of them use your traditional styles of bathing suits that have already been accepted, and just kind of jush them up a little. Whereas other suits, oh my gosh, these designers went above and beyond the call of duty.

Speaking of one of the designers, he's a United States veteran, and his swimsuits came with holsters. The models had guns. And supposedly, he's saying that the goal is to increase confidence, beauty, and strength when wearing a swimsuit. So I just kind of look at that.

Like, you know what? You got your sunscreen to protect your skin, and you've also got your 45 on your hip to protect yourself from the shenanigans that might be going on out and about. That's the only thing I could think of. That one's a bit tough.

Because I honestly feel like this designer was using what's already going on out in society here in the States, and basically was trying to capitalize off of it to cause there to be more stir, more discussion about the fact that people are just gunk ho for guns. Neither here nor there. I'm gonna have to pass on the holsters in my bathing suit. Now, there was another one that I'd have to pass on.

Now, if you've got the body, or not even so much the body, but if you've got that Genesee Quah that will allow you to wear just about anything, then you know what? By all means, do you boo? There's this one suit that was pretty much looked like black electrical tape. They had stripes on her arms, taped to her arms, stripes coming down her legs, and then it was, I don't even know how to describe the design, almost maybe like a palm leaf.

I don't even know, do you call them palm leaves? From a palm tree, the fan, fan, there we go. It was a fan design over her privates. It was very minimal.

It was very natural considering that it did not appear to be any fabric involved in this particular swimsuit. It was like, you've got your roll of tape, and you just go ahead and get creative. I had to pass on that one. Now, like I said, there were some that were very nice.

They had like maybe brilliant bright colors and a few different types of cuts here and there, whereas then you had the string pants and one, oh, I cannot forget the loincloth bathing suits. Now, this one, when I say loincloth, it covered about as much material, I'm not material, it covered about as much space as what the electrical tape did. Just a little strip of material right there in the center. Wow.

And the one thing, in the pictures that I was looking at, they all focus on the front of these suits. So with the loincloth one, I can only assume that it's just butt cheeks in the back, that there's nothing left of the imagination. Because the piece of material in the front is so small, I cannot imagine that they did opposite spectrum and did a full coverage on the rest of the backside. I don't even think that's possible to do.

So yeah, that would be another one that I would have to pass on just because. One more thing before I go, I wanna talk about these high end fashion shows. Honestly, I don't get it. I don't get it at all.

If I had the money and I'm at one of these fashion shows, is the idea for the designer to sell the pieces? Or is it just a showcase to let other people see? Because when I see these things, the models come out in these get ups that look like costumes. And it's like, so if I had the money, would I buy one of these things?

Is that even what they do? Is it like catch and release where you created this thing and then you go deconstruct it and use that stuff and something else? I don't understand it. Because clearly the stuff that they're putting in these shows were not meant for Jo Shmo's girlfriend, nor was it meant for me.

And so that's where I don't even understand. I don't know the questions to ask. I don't know what I don't know. But what I do know is that the designers that created the looks for this Miami swim week, they are definitely creatives.

They definitely think outside the box. Some of them are very practical too. I don't know if I mentioned the poncho bathing suit. The bathing suit they had the poncho that went with it.

Because if it rains and you're at the beach, that's a real thing. It can happen. Just saying. But once again, I don't understand it.

I don't get the idea of these really out there styles. What happens to these things? Maybe I need to do some more research. Thank you so much for joining me for today's episode.

You know, if you're feeling a little froggy and want to test your creative juices and see if maybe you can design one of these fantabulous bathing suits, it's simple. Go grab yourself a roll of electrical tape and just get a little creative with it. Now, speaking of getting creative, at the end here today, I would like to highlight a business instead of a nonprofit. I want to highlight a business.

And the name of the business is a swimmer line called Ruby's, R-U-B-I-E-S. And it's named after a young girl named Ruby, whose trans gender and her dad came up with this concept of a compression-style bathing suit bottom so that his daughter and other teens and young girls like her would feel less self-conscious and run less of a risk of being criticized or overanalyzed or whatever out at the beach or at the pool or something like that. So I really think this was a great idea that he came up with. And he doesn't even sell full bathing suits.

It's just the bottoms. So these trans girls, they can get the bottom and pair it with a different top or whatever. And basically, it's designed for lack of, I guess, better words to keep them safe because we know that people can be mean. So check them out, rubies.com.

And they actually work with a program as well. Every girl deserves to shine. And through every girl deserves to shine, they actually provide these suits for transgender and non-binary girls around the globe. So check them out.

Check out some of these Miami Swim Week pictures. They will blow you completely out of the water. Have a great day. And I'll see you back here on Thursday.
