He is also the director of the Advanced Practice Nursingdepartment and co-chair of Dana-Farber’s Ethics Committee, as well as a member of theAmerican Association of Nurse Practitioners.· He earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Rochesterin 1998 and his master’s degree in nursing science from Boston College in 2002. He came toDana-Farber in 2009 and has worked here ever since.· Michael’s favorite part of working at Dana-Farber is the privilege and intimacy ofcontributing to individuals’ and their families’ well-being during what is in many cases thebiggest challenge of their lives. He also appreciates the strong sense of community within theinstitution and is “humbled to share a workplace with so many colleagues who demonstrate thecommitment and impulse to care for other human beings with the degree of moral claritynecessary in this job.”· Michael felt an immediate bond with JR and describes him as “striking all who meet himwith an energy, enthusiasm, and positivity that is notable.” He admires his ability to be a caringfather, husband, business owner, and friend despite his disease and his commitment to livinglife to the fullest.· In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Denise and their threechildren Rory, Maeve and Declan. He is also an avid skier and biker, having completed thePanMass challenge several times. He says that he enjoys long and arduous rides during whichhe can think about the challenges his patients face every day and how fortunate he is to knowthem.
