Michael's reasons for not buying an electric mower, after he bought one.

from The Daily Grateful with Michael Crose · host Michael Crose

In this exciting episode, I talk about my backyard getting away from me because of all the rain that we've been having. As the sun had come out and was drying things out I went up to the store that sells stuff by the truckload. While I didn't intend to I went and bought a brand new self-propelled electric lawn mower and came home to mow my big tall backyard as well as the front yard. Things did not go well. A side note if I may while I was recording this episode my doorbell went off and it was my neighbor who needed help with something. When I was done recording after I went and helped him he came back and offered to buy my electric lawn mower for what I paid for it because he wanted it. I am so happy.

I hate apologizing for being late on these damn podcast and it's it's pathetic I never used to be and I have been but I'm going to apologize and I'm gonna try and get better I'm not gonna guarantee that I'm getting better, but I'm damn sure gonna try and get better Man plus we've been having all the damn rain. It has been raining like crazy. I have a bunch of stuff to update you on And I'm going to educate you like I have it educated myself very expensively You're getting it for free It costs me a bunch of money, but you're getting the education that I'm about to give you for absolutely damn free having to do with lawnmores Okay, just having to do with lawnmores Anyway, I've been mowing my yard like crazy and by the way, I got this really cool electric edger All right, that's really good battery powered edger by Reobe and I I love it I mean I just love it and it also is a weed eater, but you know a edger line trimmer everything I have never liked line trimmers for edging the lawn, but this one has a very thick line and it's it's really powerful I mean super powerful and it's doing a good job Although I have just watched a YouTube video by this guy called long time coming and he has one also and he He found this blade that you can attach to it. That looks really cool I got to find that blade and he uses a blade not only for edging But also for line trimming and the line trimming I do is along my fence line So it would be perfect for that just absolutely perfect And I would then have the blade it with this very powerful motor to do my edging But I got to tell you I'm not complaining about the edging I am going to complain about my mowing because it's been raining so much I have managed to keep the front yard mode but not the backyard in the back yard Yard got rather tall it got rather tall and so I said alright I have to go and mow the yard now You know we finally got a day where the rain had stopped for several hours And my backyard was actually underwater for a lot of that time, but it dried up I said okay, I got to go out and mow it was all it was all pretty dry had about six hours of sun on it It was pretty dry and it said it was gonna rain within the next couple hours I said I need to get busy but before I did that I went up to this really cool store that sells they get truckloads in of Stuff that's where I got my Ryobi line drummer and edger.

I bought that there and the cordless one And my lovely ex-wife ex-wife number two favorite ex-wife had to go back there herself She needed something else so I went with her in her van and sure is can be I'm sitting there And I looked at him before I think I told you I looked at them before where the Ryobi electric mowers that were cordless that came with a big battery and You know there these are like five hundred dollar mowers and they had them for a hundred and eighty dollars and they had the push version for a hundred and twenty dollars And I said man, you know, I suddenly Joe Biden man No, I just I don't know what it was I just grabbed the thing and walked over to the nice lady and handed her my card and bought it and I was looking at me like I'm nuts, but I bring the thing home. It didn't take long to put it together while I'm putting it together I'm charging the battery and everything's like really really good in the battery came pretty much charged, which I was pretty surprised It charged up. I was really surprised. I said I'm running out of time now I gotta go out and I'm gonna start with the backyard by the way this one's self-propelled I You know, you're not pulling anything.

It doesn't make any noise. Oh, man. I'm like loving this more So I get I unlocked the back gate I get the back gate open and I start out of the garage I turn it thing on and oh by the way, you just heard my doorbell never mind my doorbell And this is an edit I actually shut the thing down. I had to go to my neighbor's house and look at a bug problem for them I'm the neighborhood bug guy, you know, that's what I do anyway I go and I turn this thing on I'm loving it.

I push the little lever in itself for belt It likes takes off we head out into the backyard. I'm so excited to sing seems real powerful I said, oh man I didn't want one of these things forever and now I have one and there's my damn yard So I go and I make one pass around the exterior of the yard grass wasn't too tall there Primarily because it was kind of shady, but with the trees back there, but you know I came in there I made pass number two and It's still pretty good doing good by about passing over four when I'm getting out into the full Sun the grass is taller More just stops the more just clogs up look and so I had to clean it out by the way. It's shooting the grass out Right. I don't have it on mulch I have it on you know disperse it and and it's just plugging up and it's stalling the more my electric more Sun down this happens about five times It just I get going a few feet so then I said okay I'm gonna make the pass I'm gonna take it and do a half of the deck goes over the tall grass and the rest of it You know just cuts the grass, you know, or is where it's already been cut still just get clogging it up And I'm sitting there looking at the sky.

I said, all right I gotta you know this this is now it's at the point where it's pissing me off. Okay, I'm just saying it I'm getting mad. I just bought a new electric mower. It's not mowing my backyard.

I understand my backyard stall I understand all of that You know, but still you know brand new out of the box just all you know, no So I said I got to get the backyard mode I just got to get the backyard mode So I go take the mower back and throw it in the garage grab my little Murray mower You know that is a push mower and I started up and I go back there and it's just cutting through that grass like butter I mean some my grass is tall some my grass is like real tall and the Murray mower is set on mulch It wasn't you know shooting the stuff out the side. It's mulching it grinding it up and putting it down I'm just going back and forth, you know, ten minutes later. I got the whole backyard done I said all right. I said, you know, maybe the yard won't be I sold But what if that's my only mower and this is what happens in front you know stuff happens, right?

You know, we live life and things happen and what happened was because of all this weird rain that we've been having I Couldn't get the backyard mode and if I only had the Ryobi electric mower and it got that tall again I'd be up, you know, what's Creek? Okay, and the creek rhymes with this but anyway, I just said, I T and I said, you know, do I want this mower? I bought the mower. It's my mower.

Yeah, I guess I want it But you know I don't do I want the more so I made it I said I'm gonna do a test on the front yard Which was not tall. Okay, I mowed half of the front yard right across top did half of the front yard with the Ryobi electric mower Okay, put it over in the garage Just did half of it the finding line by the way got the blade set at the you know the mower height set identical with the two mowers Go out there start up my Murray my gas-powered Murray went out there mowed the front yard rest of the front yard Put everything, you know get the blower out blowing everything doing I'd already done the edging I did the edging before I did the mowing this time and I don't know why I did that I just did because I wanted to but and it worked out fine It worked out fine Well, then I'm looking at the grass and I'm saying can you see a difference and I'm sitting there saying I see a difference But is that just me is it just me who sees the difference? So I get my 90 year old neighbor. I think he's 91 or 92 now Al He's sitting out on his front porch.

I said Al can you look at my yard? He goes yeah? I said do you see anything different about the yard and he says well, you know the the side closest to your house I said yeah, it looks better than the other side. I said damn.

I didn't say damn I said something else that I don't say on podcast What am I gonna do now? I'm gonna use my gas-powered Murray mower and I'm gonna sell this electric mower to somebody You're listening to ask the garden geek
