Michelle Dickinson: New study finds dance classes help slow the progress of Parkinson's
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
A new study has found that a weekly dance class was enough to slow or even stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease in diagnosed patients. While there are many medications available to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s - none of them cure or reverse the effects of the disease. However, this research showed how patients with mild-to-moderate Parkinson's disease slowed its progress just by participating in dance classes for one-and-a-quarter hours per week.Studying patients over three years, it found those who participated in weekly dance training had less motor impairment and showed significant improvement in areas related to speech, tremors, balance and rigidity compared to those who did not do any dance exercise.Nanogirl Michelle Dickinson joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss the findings.LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
