Michelle Dickinson: New study shows the impact of concussions on children
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
Researchers have known for a while that recurrent concussions can have a long term impact on sports players - however, not much work has been done looking into the effect on children. This week saw a rare study released into the effects on children, and the findings published in British Medical Journal found that a third of kids develop a mental health problem after concussion. The review involving almost 90,000 children across nine countries found up to 36.7 per cent experienced significantly high levels of internalising problems such as depression and post-traumatic stress and 20 per cent externalising problems such as aggression and attention problems. Nanogirl Michelle Dickinson joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss the findings.LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
