Michelle Steiner – Michelle’s Mission: Living and Thriving with an Invisible Disability

from Junk to Jewels Podcast with Georgette Beck · host dreamtoachieve

Michelle Steiner lives with an invisible disability. She was diagnosed with a Learning Disability in Kindergarten. Her teacher noticed that she was struggling academically and socially. Michelle had to repeat the grade in a new school and began to receive specialty instruction. School was a challenge for her both socially and academically. Michelle struggled with her grades and learning. She also did not fit in with her peers and the bullying began early. Michelle thought that her life would always be hard and wondered what good could happen with having a disability. Little did she know that God had plans not only to help her but others as well. Michelle also had people who tried to limit her. Many people did not think that she could go to college, get her bachelor’s degree, or have the job she wanted. Michelle was able to do all those things with the right support, accommodations, and programs. Today Michelle is married to a wonderful man and has two cats. She works as a para educator in a school. Michelle finds it rewarding to work with struggling students. She is also a disability writer, speaker, photographer, and para educator. Michelle has a blog called Michelle’s Mission, where she blogs about life with a Learning Disability. She also have a store where people can purchase her artwork. She has articles published on The Mighty, Non Verbal Learning Project, Dyscalculia Blog, The Reluctant Spoonie, Kalopina Collective, Imagine the World as one Magazine and Word Gathering. She has had her photographs featured in Word Gathering and Independent and Work Ready. She works as a paraeducator in a school with students with disabilities. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two cats.   Junk to Jewels podcast was inspired by Georgette Beck's first book, Junk to Jewels, A Journey from Brokenness and Despair to Beauty and Delight.   Junk to Jewels podcast with Georgette Beck will inspire, educate, encourage, motivate, and give hope to listeners as they heal from their past, in the present, for their future.   Georgette is not afraid to share her heart with listeners, for heart matters, truly matter!
