Michigan Poison Control Center sees spike in calls about kratom

Local officials are once again sounding the alarm over kratom. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald is warning residents about the dangers of the stimulant, known for its opioid-like effects. It's sold at gas stations and smoke shops in Metro Detroit. and can be highly addictive. Sometimes on the shelf next to snacks, it can be marketed as an energy drink, gummy, a pill or a tea, with no age restrictions on sales in Michigan.
