Raised on the island of St. Croix, Malaika grew up learning plant-based healing in her grandmother’s garden and later studied soil microbiology before turning to painting as a form of storytelling.In 2023, following a breast cancer diagnosis, her practice transformed again—birthing The Visibility Project and Novel Bodies, Novel Landscapes, two stunning series that center the Black female body in ecosystems both real and reimagined.
