Microplastics in food packaging pose health risks

from Sunrise · host LiSTNR

Microplastics researcher Dr Nicholas Chartres warns that common packaged foods like yoghurt pouches, baby food sachets and microwave meals may expose children to high levels of microplastics and harmful chemicals. Approximately 15,000 chemicals are used in food packaging, many of which are endocrine disruptors linked to ADHD, IQ impacts, obesity, diabetes and hormone-sensitive cancers. Heating plastic containers accelerates chemical leaching, and experts recommend avoiding plastic food packaging when possible and basing diets on whole foods from greengrocers and farmers' markets.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
