Zohran Mamdani is the mayor elect of New York City. The 34 year old Democratic Socialist and immigrant from Uganda becomes the city’s first Muslim mayor after a grassroots campaign that energized young and working class voters. Meanwhile, Democrat Mikie Sherrill has been elected governor of New Jersey, defeating Republican Jack Ciattarelli in a closely watched race.
