Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, if that's what's trending today. Hey, I'm your best girl and you are tuned in to Tweed Trends. It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today.

It's midterm election day. Let's get started. If someone would have told me that in the year 2022, politicians would have changed the game, just turned elections upside down on its head and said, you know what? If I win, hooray.

If I lose, heck no. I'm not taking it. I'm not buying it. It ain't a thing.

No. If somebody would have told me, back in the day, then 2022, that was what elections would look like. I wouldn't have believed them. I would not have understood how that could even be a thing.

But I guess it's just as simple as saying, no, if I don't win, I am not going to accept the loss. How crazy does that sound? So because of that, I really wasn't into the whole midterm election season. We early voted and just so that come election day, if I didn't want to be involved, if I didn't want to track it, if I didn't want to follow the various races around the country, then I didn't have to.

And that's pretty much where I've been today. I just recently looked at a couple of the races and some of them are very disappointing. And you know, it's not a party thing. It's not a Republican versus Democrat thing.

It's more of a morals and standards kind of thing, where you are looking and listening and hearing the facts about the different people that are running for office. And there are some people in some parties that feel like in order for us to get our way, in order for us to be in control, we are willing to accept anyone and anything as long as we can control them. And I think that's a horrible narrative to have for a country where we're voting for leadership roles. So basically, people in parties are more interested in having control to do the things that they want to do, than to play by the rules and do the things that the people want them to do.

You know how there are certain things that happen in life. And once it happens to you, now you've become sensitive to that situation and you see it, you're aware of it, and therefore you move differently. Well, a friend brought an article to my attention today. And the topic of it was something that I never considered before until now.

And because today is midterm elections, you know, there's nothing I can do about it this year, this go around, but maybe we can try to set something up to help people in the community by the time the next voting season comes around. And what the topic of this article was, it was talking about people who have low literacy skills and how these various new rules about the polls that keep coming out have made it more and more difficult for them to be able to vote. Honestly, this subject blew me out of the water. I had no idea what to think or say because I'd never thought of this ever.

But it's made me stop and think, like, you know what, maybe we do need to put some things in place. Maybe we do need to seek out who these people are in the communities and help them out so that they can go vote and not saying we're trying to put a vote in the box for ourselves by bringing these people out. But clearly, we want everyone to be able to exercise their right to vote. And if that means taking a group of people who already have low skills when it comes to reading, showing them tips and tricks and ways that they can still vote, I think that would be amazing.

That'd be so awesome to do. So I'm gonna go to the drawing board with that and see what we can do. But I know for many people out there, kind of like how when I read the article, I didn't think anything of it, it wasn't even a thing to me. But now that I've read it, my eyes have been opened.

And I think it would be great to help somebody that needs assistance. And I wonder though, if other people out there, like you listening right now, had you ever thought about that? And if you hadn't, would you consider helping people now? How could you set up your day to be able to help somebody else be able to make it to the polls?

And I just make it there, but to actually cast a vote? The last thing I wanna bring up about voting is that it should be a family affair. If you have children, you should be taking them with you when you go to the polls. I know you're probably saying like, oh come on, that's just gonna be a headache, that's gonna be a hassle.

But what you have to do is you have to get your children involved now. They need to see you go vote, just like they need to see you reading and other things like that, to know that there is value in the vote. And so you get them going. And then as they get older, then you explain to them about the different seasons of voting.

You explain to them about the midterm elections. You explain to them about voting for president because honestly, I feel like a lot of young people feel their president is the only thing that we vote for and everything else is just optional. When in all reality, it's your local government elections that mean the most because those are the things that are gonna have the quickest and greatest impact on you in your lives. So if nothing else, you want to know what are the concerns in your community?

What are these various candidates running on? What's their platform? What are they saying that they stand for? And don't stand for?

And go off of that because honestly, I think it's, I don't like the fact that some people are voting for candidates off of one single issue. I don't understand it, especially that some issues have many layers. And so kind of like the whole abortion situation, that argument has so many different layers. There are so many other things that are affected by it.

But for those people that are dead set against abortion, then it really doesn't even matter to them clearly, that there are other people who are affected and not just the ones that you view as taking babies and throwing them in the trash. That's not everything that happens at Planned Parenthood. I'm not gonna get up on my soapbox. I've already been there just saying.

So as far as the family getting back to what I was saying in the beginning, you have to explain the branches of law to your children. You have to be the one to do it because I know when I was in school, our government and economics class was only, it wasn't even a full year class. It was a half year class. And that was it.

You only had to do one class. And I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you and tell you that I got so much out of it. And when I left, I was doing great things and no, no. We would get extra credit if we went and attended a meeting, like a school board meeting or a county council meeting or something along those lines, anything that's open to the public.

And even in that, I can't say that there was a whole lot that I learned about the process and the system. So don't wait for the schools to teach your children. Go ahead and start that now. Look for some good books.

If I happen to run across any, I will definitely post them so that you know, but hey, you can even write your own book about it. Don't wait for somebody else. You go ahead and get a little coin out of this too. All right, thank you so much for joining me for today's episode.

Well, hopefully you got your vote counted. And now it's just a waiting game to see who is coming out on top. And then we kind of got to move on and live and grow from that place. So in the meanwhile, if you're just looking for someone to talk to, you want to share some ideas, you got an idea for a show, by all means, reach out.

I would love to hear from you. You can find me on Twitter and Instagram at heveth. That's at hevet. Or just look for the hashtag tweet trends.

Just to kind of put this little bug in your ear, Twitter has become very extra, for lack of better words. Elon Musk took over and now between my husband and myself, we daily get these spammy messages from these scantily clad women or just weird stuff that we weren't getting before. So, you know, I'm slowly inching away from it. They can have that for themselves.

I'm not a fan and therefore, yeah, let's figure out something better to do. So saying all of that, once again, you know what to find me at heveth. That's at H-E-E-T-E-T-E. Or just look for the hashtag tweet trends.
