Mike Munroe: former Labour Chief of Staff on how Chris Hipkins can win voters over in the next election
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
Chris Hipkins is expected to be New Zealand's 41st Prime Minister, with the Labour caucus meeting to confirm the nomination at 1pm today. With the next general election set to happen in October 2023, the question as to whether Chris Hipkins can win over voters and secure a third term for Labour is top of mind. Mike Munroe, former Labour Chief of Staff, says that Chris Hipkins is the obvious successor after Grant Robertson declined the role and that he's at an advantage. "They always get a honeymoon period, new leaders. And Hipkins will need to use that well, he'll need to get out and talk to a lot of people, talk to different constituencies, especially those that are under the pump."
