I decide to quickly interrupt to say a quick goodbye, only to realize that the person she is talking to is cartoonist Jason Porath, whose creative work celebrates “women of history and myth who were too awesome, awful, or offbeat for the animated princess treatment.” We need to talk. So here’s that conversation, and it’s a good one! I am fascinated with self-taught artists, and Jason’s work is so detailed and thorough, too. He worked with DreamWorks on such films as How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2, and then went on to carve his own fascinating path with Rejected Princesses. I open the show with some musings on the holidays, and how to cope with having the blues around this time of year.
