In my parents generation, the cows had to be milked.  If you wanted to eat, you worked hard or you starved.   When my dad died, I had no time for depression.   I had to work and help my mom pay the bills.  My brother, all of 16, was on his own. Today, lots of white males drop out and play video games and don't work at all.  What does it all mean?
